Hi, I’m Allison! Welcome to Back Road Birding.
I started this blog as a way for me to document the multitude of birds I’ve encountered and their individual behaviors. In 2020, I began photographing birds for no other reason except that I found them fascinating – and quite beautiful. However, I’ve found myself observing them more intentionally and have enjoyed learning more about their unique traits.
The other day, I decided to write down how many different species of birds I have witnessed visit my backyard over the past two years. I was shocked when I learned the number was 55! You’re probably wondering why I know the number is for sure 55. How could I possibly remember all the different species of birds I’ve seen visit my yard? Well, I’m also a bird photographer, so I actually do have proof – categorized by year and species.
But do you know what’s even more exciting than having 55 different bird species visit my yard? The fact that out of those 55, 32 of them are migratory birds! You may be asking yourself, “what are migratory birds?” Well, that’s what I’m here to teach you.
My ultimate goal is to help you – and me – learn more about the abundance of birds that live among us – from the birds that live here all year long, to the birds that travel thousands of miles, eventually finding themselves in our back yards.
I’m excited to share my passion for birds with you – and maybe, just maybe you’ll become a bird lover like me!
